The Saint Tears Contract originated from a story within Heaven's mythological system.
Legend has it that long, long ago, Heaven had a very famous female believer named Sara.
Sara was a cleric who mastered Saint Light spells and followed Heaven's expeditionary forces across the Myriad Worlds to combat Hell.
During an exploration mission, Sara's squad was ambushed by demons from Hell, and the team suffered heavy casualties.
Just then, a prince riding a heavy-armored warhorse charged out, rescuing Sara and several of her teammates from the demonic encirclement.
The subsequent story was not the cliché of a hero saving a damsel in distress, where the two fall in love.
Instead, it was a brutal tale of civilization slaughter. Hell's retaliation came incredibly fast; Sara had barely left that world to report the mission when the catastrophe struck.
A Hellgate descended, and a demonic army surged out. In an instant, all life was plunged into misery.
By the time Sara returned with her teammates, that world was left with nothing but the prince and his personal guard.
Seeing this purgatory-like devastation, Sara believed her squad was the reason this innocent world had suffered Hell's massacre.
The kind-hearted girl shed tears of remorse, and the believer's repentance reached the Lord of Heaven.
The Lord of Heaven cast his gaze down. Saint Light pierced through the world's barriers and arrived in that world. The demonic army was scorched into ash by the Saint Light, and the Hellgate collapsed instantly under its radiance.
In response to his devout believer, the Lord of Heaven mixed Sara's tears with Saint Light to form a brand-new contract: the Saint Tears Contract.
Signatories of the Saint Tears Contract can receive Heaven's assistance to fight Hell together. Most importantly, the Saint Tears Contract does not require the other civilization to believe in Heaven, nor does it limit the rank of the powerhouses involved.
Of course, all this information came from Heaven's propaganda. Chen Xu maintained a reserved attitude toward the credibility of a promotional story from a religious faction.
However, the effects of the Saint Tears Contract were very real.
Simply put, the Saint Tears Contract was a pact between two civilizations, specifically one involving war. Both parties to the contract were required to strike at Hell's armies together.
Compared to ordinary non-contractual cooperation, the benefit of a contract was its powerful binding force.
Without a signed contract, if a bad situation arose—for example, if a small world was jointly occupied by multiple eternal-tier Hell Archdukes—Heaven would simply abandon it to avoid the brunt of the attack.
Once a contract was signed, Heaven had to get involved regardless of the circumstances.
With the 'Contract' being another divine office of the Lord of Heaven besides 'Saint Light,' violating a contract was equivalent to harming the Lord of Heaven himself.
“Mr. Chen Xu, since you know of the Saint Tears Contract, you should also know that this contract is meant for civilizations.
So, Mr. Chen Xu, are you representing your own necrotic forces, or the entire Land of the Undead?”
Alifa's voice drifted over, filled with anticipation.
He was no stranger to the Saint Tears Contract; over years of warfare, he had signed many as a representative.
But when Chen Xu mentioned the Saint Tears Contract, he was still very excited.
This was a necrotic archduke. The words of a necrotic archduke very likely represented the Land of the Undead behind him.
If Heaven and the Land of the Undead could reach a contract to face the threat of Hell together, their chances of victory would increase significantly.
The news Chen Xu brought earlier had made Alifa extremely wary of Hell, causing even his eternal-tier soul to ripple.
This was why Alifa was so excited about the Saint Tears Contract Chen Xu proposed.
Only those who had truly faced Hell knew how terrifying those demons were.
Facing Alifa's inquiry, Chen Xu smiled slightly. “For now, I represent myself, but in the near future, perhaps I will represent the entire Land of the Undead.”
“For now... the future?”
Alifa failed to grasp the meaning behind Chen Xu's words, but even uniting with just one necrotic archduke was a good result.
The necrotic beings under a necrotic archduke's command, when added together, were far stronger than an ordinary world.
For the Heaven faction, he was definitely a powerful ally.
Thus, Alifa once again flipped through the secret tome in his hand. A translucent contract page, appearing as if composed of liquid, flew out and landed in Alifa's hand.
Alifa raised his right hand, and the wings of light behind him curved forward. He reached out to pluck a feather of light from them and used it to write his name on the contract page before him.
Afterward, he placed the contract page and the feather on the table. Two servant angels immediately stepped forward; one held up the contract page with both hands, and the other held the feather, walking over to Chen Xu's side.
After setting down the contract page and the feather, they retreated to a distance.
Chen Xu did not touch the contract page directly with his hand, fearing that the Saint Light energy on the page would conflict with his necrotic energy again.
He used mental strength to grasp the contract page and examined it in detail. After confirming there were no issues, he used mental strength to pick up the feather of light and signed his name.
As the name was written, the contract page flashed with a white light. Then, the page split smoothly down the middle into two halves. One half returned to Alifa's secret tome, while the other transformed into a physical page and landed on the table.
“Mr. Chen Xu, the contract is complete. According to the terms, Heaven Trade will be open to you. If you have any needs, you can initiate a request through the cross-world communication system built into this platinum cross.
As for transactions, Heaven accepts bartering or Battle Merit Points, which can be exchanged using trophies taken from demons.”
Alifa activated the secret tome again, and a platinum cross flew out, landing before Chen Xu. This secret tome, besides recording and preserving contracts, actually had a storage function.
Chen Xu picked up the platinum cross, looked at it briefly, and then turned to Alifa. “Mr. Alifa, could you give me a few more? Besides the necrotic archduke, this Blue Star is also considered my territory.”
Alifa said nothing but silently activated the secret tome. Three more crosses flew out and landed in Chen Xu's hand.
“Wol.”
Alifa suddenly turned his head toward the left.
A beam of Saint Light descended from above, and a ten-winged angel wearing battle armor and holding a longsword stepped out from it.
“Lord Alifa.”
Alifa pointed at Chen Xu and said to Wol, “This is Necrotic Archduke Chen Xu. From now on, he will be our Saint Tears Ally. I will be returning to Heaven soon; during this period, you will lead the Heavenly expeditionary forces to campaign against the demons alongside Mr. Chen Xu.”
“By your command, Lord Alifa.”
After responding, Wol turned and bowed slightly to Chen Xu, who nodded in acknowledgment.
“Perfect. There is a battlefield just outside Blue Star. Undead and angels fighting together is something that has never happened since ancient times. Moreover, the opponent is the notorious demons of Hell. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of scene that will be.”
Chen Xu also looked at Wol and voiced his thoughts.
Alifa, the Angel Priest, was merely the trump card overseeing the battlefield and would not easily move unless absolutely necessary. Clearly, this Wol was the general commander of the Outerworld Battlefield.
Since Chen Xu did not want to expose his identity as a candidate for the Lord of the Undead for the time being, he summoned Philen, the Soul of Freedom.
As soon as Philen appeared, it wanted to greet Chen Xu, but it instantly sensed the surrounding Saint Light environment, causing its soul body to flicker wildly by instinct.
Lord of the Undead above, why has my master come to such a place?
“This is Philen, a somewhat special ghost. I will have it lead a portion of the undead army to crusade against the demons alongside the angels.
Of course, this portion of the undead army is not large; I have some private matters to attend to first.
As for deeper cooperation, I think we should wait until Mr. Alifa returns.”
Chen Xu shifted the conversation and looked back at Alifa.
Alifa nodded, agreeing to Chen Xu's approach.
Subsequently, Chen Xu rose to leave. Alifa opened a Heaven's Gate leading to Blue Star. After seeing Chen Xu off, he immediately opened another Heaven's Gate leading to Heaven and stepped inside.
Seeing their respective bosses depart, Wol could only look at Philen. He was also working with the undead for the first time, and Philen was naturally standing this close to an angel for the first time as well.
The two stared at each other, momentarily unsure of how to interact.
As for Chen Xu, he had already returned to the Undead Divine Court and pulled Kunpeng out of the Inverted Sea.
“Woo?”
Kunpeng was full of confusion, not understanding why Chen Xu was looking for it.
Chen Xu did not answer, simply pressing his hand onto Kunpeng's massive head.
In the next instant, a surge of energy was transmitted from the depths of Chen Xu's soul into Kunpeng's body.
