Chapter 244 | Overtime Necromancy: My Legion Never Sleeps

The three beams of holy light dissipated, and three Angel Priests stepped out from within.

Positioned to the right of Karl, the Demon King of Destruction, was Chen Xu’s old acquaintance, Alifa.

Alifa was currently clad in armor, looking no different from when he had fought Mogli, though the scepter and secret tome in his hands had changed—they had been upgraded.

Chen Xu could clearly sense an extremely high-level power of blessing within the scepter and tome, which was continuously enhancing the two pieces of equipment.

It was undoubtedly the handiwork of the Lord of Heaven.

“The Path of Blessing?”

Chen Xu silently noted this key piece of information. In previous records of inheritance, the Lord of Heaven was only noted to possess four Dao principles: Holy Light, World, Faith, and Justice. There had been no mention of a Path of Blessing.

To Karl’s left was another Angel Priest. In Chen Xu’s perception, this priest’s aura was similar to Alifa’s, likely placing them at the same level.

The true heavyweight was the Angel Priest standing behind Karl.

Just as Hell had the Seven Demon Kings, who stood above the Hell Archdukes but below the Mother of Hell, Heaven was said to have Ten High Priests.

Justice, Fate, Hope, Light, Wisdom, Courage, Judgment, Mercy, Guardian, and Glory.

The one who had descended now was Valo, the Priest of Courage, ranked sixth among the Ten High Priests.

Valo was much taller than Alifa. As the Priest of Courage, his frontal combat capability was considered the best among all the priests.

He wore brilliant, blood-red armor, and the engravings upon it differed from those of a typical priest. The armor bore no elements related to Heaven.

Instead, it was covered in ferocious, hideous faces—mostly demons, with a few evil beasts or villains famous across the Cosmic Sea.

These were all of Valo’s battle achievements. He was one tough angel—killing his enemies and then engraving them onto his own body.

Valo’s weaponry was also unique. Instead of the typical scepter and secret tome combination used by other priests, he wielded a crimson-gold spear.

Lightning flickered and jumped along the spear, and flames burned fiercely upon it. Without a doubt, this spear contained dense elemental power.

Valo raised the spear and threw it in an instant.

Karl had long been on guard. The tail behind him snapped straight like a pike, blocking Valo’s spear.

“Heh heh heh, Valo. It’s been a long time. You’re as passionate as ever.”

Karl turned around with a savage grin and lunged at Valo, swatting away the other two Angel Priests who tried to block him with casual swipes of his claws.

“Hmph. Demon King of Destruction, today my spear shall pierce your flesh, and the holy light shall sear your soul. This world shall be the end of your boundless crimes.”

Valo raised his hand to catch the spear as it bounced back. Gripping it with both hands, he spread the wings of light on his back and transformed into a streak of crimson light, flying toward Karl.

Crack! Boom! Boom!

The intensity of their exchange was far more violent than the previous battle between Karl and Chen Xu’s clone.

Seeing this, Chen Xu pursed his lips. It seemed that pure physical strength alone was not enough. He lacked experience in close-quarters combat and couldn’t fully utilize the potential of the clone’s perfect body.

Once this calamity targeting him was over, he would have to send his clone to further its studies in martial arts. Conveniently, among the special dungeons connected to Blue Star, there was a martial arts world.

What was it called? Taikun, he thought?

Chen Xu couldn’t quite remember, but the priority now was to deal with this Hell Demon King.

Since ascending to Lord of the Undead, he had mastered the complete power of creation within his authority, which had caused his creation addiction to flare up again.

In Chen Xu’s eyes, a Hell Demon King was a magnificent research subject. The minor desire for research inherent in the Necromancer class had instantly exploded.

Chen Xu was impatient to study the demon king before him—to dissect its body, analyze its soul, and then craft an undead version of a ‘Demon King.’

Thus, Chen Xu secretly sent a message to Alifa, who was watching from the sidelines.

【Chen Xu: Lord Alifa, I have prepared multiple curse spells in advance. For the curses to take full effect, I need your help to use holy light to break through the protective Hellfire on the Demon King of Destruction.】

The source of that Hellfire was the unique-tier Mother of Hell, and the flames coating the demon king even contained a sliver of the original source.

Chen Xu’s curses could forcefully break through the Hellfire’s shielding to affect Karl’s soul, but they would be significantly weakened.

He was worried Karl might have some means of escaping back to Hell.

Only a fatal blow that completely destroyed Karl’s soul via the curses could prevent any accidents.

And the first step was to break that layer of Hellfire.

【Alifa: No problem, Lord Chen Xu.】

Alifa exchanged a glance with the other Angel Priest, relaying the message.

The two flew backward, moving away from the center of the battle.

They simultaneously raised their secret tomes and chanted hymns, triggering waves of holy light power.

Seeing this, Karl spat a blast of Hellfire at Valo to create a brief opening, then threw two punches at the two Angel Priests without even looking back.

The pressure from the punches arrived in an instant, but just as they were about to hit the two priests, a devouring power pulled at them, diverting the force from its original path and failing to interrupt the priests’ casting.

The one who had released the devouring power was Chen Xu’s clone.

To prevent the two Angel Priests from being disturbed again, the clone activated his primeval power once more, and a thin layer of ultimate cold power coated his fists.

Chen Xu had diverted Sindragosa’s cold power over as well. Though mythic-tier cold power might not do much, it was better than nothing.

The clone assumed a classic flying posture and arrived behind Karl, slamming a fist into the demon king’s back.

The massive impact forced Karl slightly forward. Valo seized the opportunity to increase his strength and thrust his spear into Karl’s chest.

The violent power of lightning was released from the spear’s tip, causing blossoms of blood to explode across Karl’s chest.

Wounded, Karl grew even more furious. His demonic ferocity was ignited; with a sudden surge of strength, he grabbed Valo’s spear and swung Valo around, slamming him toward his rear.

Chen Xu’s clone teleported away immediately, causing Karl’s attack to miss.

Chen Xu’s strategy was clear: the clone would act as a distraction, assisting the primary combatant, Valo, so the demon king couldn’t spare any attention to interfere with the two priests who were casting.

As the sound of the hymns grew louder, they seemed to reach a climax.

Karl became increasingly anxious. Having fought Heaven for many years, he knew exactly what spell those two priests were casting.

But Valo and Chen Xu’s clone in front of him were both fighting with a style that focused entirely on offense, ignoring defense.

Chen Xu relied on the strength of his perfect body, not caring about minor wear and tear.

As for Valo, the Priest of Courage, he truly hoped to end this Hell Demon King, even if it meant dying together.

Courage meant seeking life through death; the spear in his hand would find a new beginning for him from within the jaws of death.

To the side, Alifa and the other priest had finished their chanting. Within the song of the Angel Priests, a vast amount of holy light converged into a tiny sphere of light.

The priests’ will and magic ignited the light sphere’s spirituality. The sphere rose slowly, gradually radiating an intense, sacred glow.

“Radiant Sun?”

Seeing this, Chen Xu realized that what Alifa had released was indeed the legendary Radiant Sun.

It was the signature spell of the priests, creating a sun that emitted holy light directly through divine power. This sun would not exist forever, but as long as a priest continued to supply it with energy or Heaven’s believers provided faith, the Radiant Sun would not go out.

The holy light shone over the entire Akhan world, its radiance dispelling the corruption in the air—and, of course, the necrotic aura as well.

Across the shattered land, demons and undead huddled together, using each other’s bodies to shield themselves from the holy light.

Whether demon or undead, all were in agony before the holy light.

Chen Xu surveyed the situation in the world and confirmed there were enough corpses. With a wave of his hand, he recalled the undead army back to the Land of the Undead.

The army had served its purpose. Chen Xu was not a tyrannical person; there was no need to leave the undead here to suffer the searing holy light.

As the Radiant Sun rose higher, the brilliance of the holy light did not weaken but grew even more intense.

To deal with Karl, the Demon King of Destruction, Alifa did not hesitate to draw out all the power of blessing left behind by the Lord of Heaven in his tome and scepter, injecting it into the Radiant Sun.

Empowered, the Radiant Sun released its brilliance to the fullest. Under the holy light’s shine, the Hellfire on Karl’s body was gradually suppressed.

“Roar!!!”

Karl let out a roar, shaking off Valo and Chen Xu’s clone.

He then slammed a fist into the ground, attempting to make the previously injected Hellfire erupt to counter the holy light in the sky.

But Chen Xu didn’t give him the chance. His massive soul formed a barrier, forcefully pressing the underground Hellfire back down.

Then, a soul shock struck Karl directly between the eyes, making him stumble.

The remaining dozen or so mage towers in the world lit up simultaneously, releasing spell after spell.

Eerie Flowers of Death began to grow wildly from Karl’s massive limbs. Meanwhile, under Chen Xu’s deliberate guidance, the sinister skeletons formed from God-Slaying Poison began to corrode the source of the Hellfire within Karl’s body.

Chen Xu had modified the Flowers of Death released this time, shifting their target from the soul to the physical body.

He didn’t want to waste a demon king’s soul; he wanted both the body and the soul of the Demon King of Destruction.

At the same time, the vast number of corpses in the world—demonic, human, and undead—all underwent terrifying explosions under the effect of Corpse Explosion.

The impact of the explosions filled the air with flesh and bone fragments, as well as a thick necrotic aura.

The heavy blood mist, mixed with the necrotic aura, even temporarily blocked the holy light in the sky.

In this environment, the Flowers of Death were in their most active and comfortable state, growing frantically every second.

By the time Karl recovered from the soul shock, the Flowers of Death had already crawled all over his limbs and abdomen, with only a small patch on his chest remaining uncovered.

Karl tried to tear the Flowers of Death off his body, only to find his strength was constantly draining; he couldn't even snap these strange plants.

Furthermore, the soul shock from just now had terrified Karl even more. Such a horrific soul could mean only one thing.

A unique-tier being had been hiding in the shadows, watching him.

Karl didn't understand what that unique-tier being wanted. If their goal was him, they could have just attacked directly; why resort to a sneak attack?

But Karl had no time to think. The Hellfire source in his chest activated, and flames burned from his chest toward his soul.

The corrupted flames wrapped around the demon’s soul, protecting it as it abandoned the physical body and flew toward the blood-red hexagram Aaron had summoned in the sky.
