After the training on the drill grounds ended, Tyr returned to his dormitory.
“Young Master, how was today's training?”
Avia asked as she helped Tyr change into his casual clothes.
This was Tyr's first day of training with the Callis family, so Avia couldn't help but be curious about how it went.
“It was pretty good.”
Tyr looked up and thought for a moment before saying so. Aside from the cultivation process being a bit painful, it really was quite good—at least, that was what Tyr felt.
The most important part was that he could clearly feel himself growing stronger.
Having positive feedback was better than anything else.
“Pretty good?”
Avia was slightly surprised. Although she didn't know much about the Callis family's training methods, rumors suggested they were by no means easy.
Otherwise, why would they be described with the word 'brutal'?
Although it was only his first day of training, the fact that Tyr could say it was decent only showed that his talent was strong enough to keep up with the instructor's pace.
Avia thought to herself that the master she served had a very high chance of becoming a candidate in the future.
...
When he arrived at the drill grounds the next day, Tyr could sense that all the other reserves had grown wary of him.
The scene of him suppressing Letitia's group of three all by himself yesterday had truly shocked them, and they couldn't help but start fearing him.
Tyr didn't really care about their reactions. As long as no one came to bother him, he was happy to have some peace and quiet.
Even Letitia and her two companions hadn't looked for trouble with him again after being taught a lesson yesterday.
However, they still glared fiercely at him whenever they saw him.
Clearly, they were still unsubmissive, thinking they would teach him a lesson once their strength surpassed his in the future.
But if they really thought that way, they were highly likely to be disappointed.
After all, he never believed his talent was inferior to anyone else's.
If you are defeated by me today, you won't have a chance to catch up in the future.
On the drill grounds, the training started with the same old two routines: running laps and holding swords.
Only this time, after the sword-holding ended, Tina stood in front of everyone, tossing a palm-sized block of wood.
“Today is training for your reaction time. I will randomly throw wooden blocks at you, and what you need to do is deflect them with your swords.”
As soon as Tina's voice fell, she had already thrown the first wooden block.
At the beginning, the speed at which Tina threw the blocks wasn't fast, so even the few reserves who had been lagging behind in training could hit them.
“Is today's training really this simple?”
Someone muttered, and the speed of the wooden blocks suddenly increased.
Whoosh!
A sound of tearing air approached. Tyr fiercely slashed his wooden sword upward, knocking the flying wooden block away.
But this was only the beginning. Tina was like an automatic baseball pitching machine, throwing the wooden blocks faster and faster.
Most importantly, the direction from which the blocks flew changed every single time.
“Ah!”
Soon, the first victim appeared.
A flying wooden block struck someone hard in the abdomen, knocking them backward.
For those who were knocked down, Tina would give them ten seconds to stand back up and get into position. After ten seconds, the next wooden block would fly toward them right on time.
If they couldn't pick up their wooden swords in time, they would have to catch the next blocks with their bodies.
Enhanced by magic power, Tina could throw wooden blocks at all the reserves simultaneously, so they shouldn't expect to have much time to rest.
As time passed, more and more reserves were hit. Tyr also had to focus all his attention, his eyes locked onto his surroundings.
While the speed of the incoming wooden blocks increased, the angles also became increasingly tricky.
This focus training lasted for an entire hour before it ended. On the drill grounds, every reserve except Tyr had been knocked down at least once.
Even Letitia's group of three was hit by the wooden blocks several times.
Although Tina wouldn't throw the blocks faster than their current limits during training, the tricky angles still caught them off guard.
“I'll give you ten minutes to rest, and then you can begin your free practice.”
Tina walked away with the wooden blocks, and all the reserves on the drill grounds breathed a sigh of relief.
Yur turned his head to look around and was drawn to a few people whose faces were swollen like pigs' heads.
“Just how many times were they hit?”
While focusing on deflecting the wooden blocks earlier, Tyr had indeed heard a continuous stream of miserable screams.
Although his entire attention had been on the wooden blocks that could fly in from any direction at any moment, just listening to the sound was enough to understand that some people had been beaten quite miserably.
Tina would control the maximum throwing speed, but this limit was based on the progress of normal training.
She wouldn't increase the speed specifically for a reserve just because they had high talent or strong power; likewise, she wouldn't decrease the speed for a reserve just because they had low talent or weak power.
Lacking talent was truly a form of torture here.
...
For the next dozen or so days, Tyr followed a structured routine in the Sword Prison.
In the morning, he went to the medicine room to soak in a medicinal bath. Later in the morning, he went to the training field for Sword Qi body tempering. In the afternoon, he went to the drill grounds to receive swordsmanship training from Tina.
“Big Brother Tyr.”
Just as Tyr stepped out of the dormitory building, he heard someone calling him.
Turning his head, he saw an exquisitely featured young girl running toward him.
Sevira Callis.
She had arrived at the Sword Prison even later than Tyr.
Her talent was quite good. Just three days after arriving at the Sword Prison, she had condensed her first Magic Circle.
Naturally, someone like her was targeted by Letitia's group.
The age-old tradition of the Sword Prison—bullying.
Initially, Tyr hadn't planned to get involved.
Because this was the Sword Prison, and everyone here was a rival.
Of course, the more fundamental reason was that this was one of the training rules here. If he stepped in just because someone was being bullied, wouldn't he have to save everyone else who was bullied too? That would undoubtedly disrupt the training model of this place.
In the end, the reason Tyr still chose to take action was because of Sevira's personality.
To put it simply, she was very pure and cheerful, which made her look completely out of place among the other children of the Callis family.
Of course, what left the deepest impression on Tyr was...
After Tyr helped Sevira, the very first thing she said when she opened her mouth was, “Thank you, Big Sister.”
Tyr was completely dumbfounded at that moment. Honestly, if not for her pure smile, Tyr would have suspected she was doing it on purpose.
From Sevira, he learned that her father was only a Baron, and a Baron of a relatively remote region within the Grand Duchy, which was why she arrived even later than Tyr.
Tyr remembered that Wayne Village, where he had lived before, was already remote enough. He hadn't expected there to be a place even more isolated.
