Chapter 157 | Reincarnated as a Prince in a Twisted Fairy Tale World

Alkin and the giant wolf that Grandmother had become began their life-and-death struggle, but by now, the tide of the hunt had long since turned.

Previously, 【Grandmother】 had enjoyed the process of hunting the white wolf, but now, she was being unilaterally ravaged by the white-haired wolf girl.

The black and white fire on the blades held by the girl was a divine weapon that perfectly countered beasts; whether it was fangs, claws, or a lashing tail, everything was ignited the moment it neared the flames, causing the creature to retract with a miserable howl.

It was a classic case of lots of fur, weak to fire.

Thus, under the watchful eyes of Faust, Sylvia, and the others, Alkin performed a hunt that could only be described as a work of art.

Against a cornered beast putting up a final struggle, one must maintain a proper distance and possess absolute patience, and then... break its fangs, pierce its abdomen, sever its hamstrings, and gouge out its eyes...

While weakening the giant beast in this manner, Alkin shouted rebukes:

"Don't eat! Don't eat! I told you not to eat!"

Clearly, the sin of "man-eating" was something the wolf-eared girl utterly detested.

The 【Hunter】 path unique to the Fog Moon Kingdom had a specialized advantage against any beast that strayed from the path of civilization, and Alkin was already a standout among them, an expert if not a master.

The hunting she displayed was still filled with the same violent aesthetic from their first meeting, making Faust almost lose his composure.

Stop! If you keep this up, the power scaling is going to collapse!

Even if she is just a minor deity of the mortal realm, she still bears the title of an Ancient One; being solo-killed by her own descendant... please stop destroying our world-building!

Wait, she is a witch, so never mind.

The 【witches' feast】 Faust had encountered before was fundamentally different from this version of 《Little Red Riding Hood》, a fact he should have realized sooner.

Alkin was Little Red Riding Hood, she was the Hunter, and she was the wolf!

She didn't just play the protagonist; she played the supporting roles too.

She had gathered all the elements of the fate script for herself, she cleared the farm in all three lanes!

It was likely that this entire Fog Moon Kingdom was a stage built for her alone.

【What do you mean 'likely'? That is exactly it. Generally speaking, these fully enclosed kingdoms are stages prepared for a fate script. To allow the protagonist to take the stage, no matter what kind of sacrifice or madness is constructed, it is all for the final burst of fireworks.】

Mephistopheles said with a fair amount of sighing.

"Roar—"

Under such relentless abuse, the giant wolf finally could no longer endure the humiliation and charged at Alkin.

"Perfect!"

Alkin met the giant wolf's charge head-on, but the result was that the fire-wrapped blades were superior, and the giant wolf's momentum was brought to a dead stop.

Compared to the size of the giant wolf, Alkin appeared so tiny, yet this small figure counter-intuitively blocked the giant beast. She then stepped onto the giant wolf's flank and sprinted along it, using the extended reach of her flaming blades to tear through the opponent's body.

The speed at which Alkin tore into the giant wolf increased, and the indescribable sense of liberation made her laugh out loud.

"Hahahaha! How thrilling! How satisfying!"

The white wolf stepped across the giant wolf's body like light and fire until she had torn the latter into an unrecognizable shape with her flaming blades.

For her final strike, Alkin leaped high into the air, completing a Helm Breaker on the giant wolf by plunging her blade into its throat.

Execution!

The giant wolf's head, having completely lost its breath and majesty, began to dissipate into embers bit by bit.

"Goodbye, Grandmother. I suppose I might miss you, but for you, this can be considered a release."

In the center of the chaotic battlefield, the white-haired wolf girl let out a long, satisfied sigh, her blood-stained, handsome face appearing peaceful and indifferent.

Within the black and white fire, there was actually a hint of divinity.

Witnessing this scene that seemed plucked from an epic song, even the most dull-witted person understood what had happened.

Sylvia and the other ancestral guards were in a state of total confusion:

"Qin... how could she, how could she... actually kill Grandmother?"

Faust glanced at the wolf-kin and said, "That is why I told you not to worry, there is always a twist."

Alkin put away her broken weapons and walked toward Faust, casually plucking a rose from the sea of roses and holding it in her mouth.

Arriving before the Prince, the handsome and pretty wolf-eared girl gracefully extended her hand:

"My dear Faust, did your heart skip a beat for me?"

Faust nodded.

"It would be quite improper to say it didn't. My affection for you has skyrocketed."

"Hmph."

Having received the answer she wanted, Alkin smiled and let out a soft hum.

Then, she turned her gaze toward Sylvia and her other wolf pack compatriots.

Sylvia decisively raised both hands in surrender, saying with a sense of resignation, "Honestly, I cannot even muster the thought of trying to compete anymore."

She had felt some jealousy before, but now she had made peace with it; what was there to say to a cheater?

Alkin raised an eyebrow.

"You all do not seem very sad. Does none of you remain loyal to Grandmother?"

The performance of these wolf-kin was quite shocked, yet they did not appear particularly sorrowful or afraid; their loyalty seemed a bit suspect.

Sylvia gave a self-deprecating laugh.

"Qin, we have known each other for so many years. Do you really think I would heap praise upon the act of man-eating? Everything was simply... because there was no choice."

"Grandmother did not have much time left anyway. Her condition was getting worse and worse. Even if you had not come to slay her, I was going to kill Grandmother myself—it was her own instruction."

"Hmm?"

Alkin tilted her head in confusion, not understanding.

Sylvia explained, "You already know that the Ancient Ones currently in the kingdom are the wolf ancestors of each family. The Moon Deity's decree is to slaughter all beasts, and if someone slays an Ancient One, they receive His greatest reward."

"In the past, the pack would kill Grandmother and then make a wish to the Great Moon to resurrect her. By doing so, they could purify Grandmother's mental state and maintain her existence for a while longer. It is not just the Fenrir family; the other families like Trajan and Hal do the same."

"This was originally the duty of the champion hunters. Because you rejected the responsibility, it fell to me."

Wow, incredible. They could even exploit a bug like that!

"Boom—"

As if to verify Sylvia's words, a crack streaked across the sky, and the blood moon cast a strange light that mirrored the sea of roses.

Alkin's wolf ears twitched as she looked up with a frown, seemingly hearing the call of the Moon Deity.

Seeing this, Sylvia said, "Now you are the hero who slew an Ancient One. You may make whatever wish you desire."

Alkin asked, "What if I want to solve the Fog Moon Kingdom's problems once and for all? To eliminate the Ancient Ones and lift the kingdom's isolation?"

The black-haired, red-eyed wolf-kin smiled. "That is also possible, but killing just one Ancient One is not enough. You would need to slay the ancestors of the other families as well. Then, once you make your wish, you could erase the Fog Moon Kingdom."

"Because the bestial nature has already spread throughout the entire kingdom. It is not just us in the wolf pack; everyone in this kingdom has been tainted by an indelible bestial nature over the past century."

Sylvia shook her head with a bitter smile.

"This is why we were helpless and could only maintain the decaying order. You can make any wish to the Moon Deity, except for one that would block the Great Moon's will to eliminate beasts. Either the kingdom stays under the pack's control, or everyone goes down together."
