‘What on earth happened to my body?’
Begrun felt both bewildered and terrified by these events that had transpired entirely against his will.
Because his body had undergone a process of reconstruction and modification completely different from that of Celia and Lisette, he could no longer be called human.
“This is...!”
He finally opened his eyes, only to find himself trapped inside a colossal object.
It was a massive mass of flesh, with countless nervous systems extending from it.
This repulsive sight triggered an instinctive terror, making him dizzy and nearly causing him to lose consciousness. Yet, as if denying him that escape, nervous systems from all directions pierced his flesh, fusing his original body and his new form together with needle-like precision.
Finally, he opened his eyes with his true body. It would not be an exaggeration to say he had been reborn.
He viewed the world through new eyes and felt his body through new senses.
The precisely connected nervous system made him feel as if this had been his body since birth, and he moved his new form with complete ease.
A pair of colossal hands, looking as though they were clad in heavy armor, tore open his cocoon and emerged.
He pushed up his heavy, slime-dripping body, and his massive feet slammed onto the ground with a heavy thud. Straightening his back, he took in a line of sight that was far higher than before.
‘My Queen!’
Through his still-blurry vision, he saw Kerrigan standing on the ground, looking up at him.
Kerrigan, who had originally been similar to him in size, now seemed much smaller.
Begrun finally took a proper look at his own body.
The countless cells clustered around his body, dividing at the cost of massive nutrients and resources, had formed a heavily armored giant several meters tall.
With multiple red eyes gleaming from within his helmet, Begrun understood the responsibility he now bore.
From a knight who protected his homeland and kin, he had now become a knight who protected the Great Devourer.
“Are you satisfied with this?”
At his thought, a portion of the heavy exoskeleton retracted, revealing his true face to the world.
His face did not appear inside the helmet on his shoulders.
With a sharp click, the exoskeleton on his chest split open, revealing the face of Begrun from his time as a human.
Only a portion of his original upper body, including his head and spine, remained. It was fully integrated into the new body, connected by countless nerve bundles and blood vessels.
“Your new body is just as powerful.”
Kerrigan spoke as if asking what the problem was, looking at his form with deep satisfaction instead.
This was slightly different from Elise, who ultimately viewed Celia and Lisette as useful tools or subordinates, with only Lin Miao in her heart.
Begrun was entirely a product of Kerrigan's desire—created by her, and the new Legion Commander she had envisioned.
“Sigh...”
Sensing Kerrigan's intense attachment to him through the hive mind, Begrun let out a deep sigh.
Unlike Kerrigan, who simply found it cool and amazing, Begrun saw himself as a hideous monster by his own standards—a fact he found too painful to put into words.
But Begrun had also paid the price and gotten what he wanted.
In any case, there was no turning back, and he had already made up his mind.
Most importantly, Begrun could already feel Lin Miao's vague will within the hive mind, leaving him with no way to refuse.
“Our potential for evolution is limitless. If it is for combat, Her Majesty can always fashion a new body for you in the future.”
Celia, who could be considered his new companion, intervened to comfort him, worried that his mind might break.
“Is that so? I don't have much expectation.”
Fortunately, contrary to Celia's expectations, Begrun appeared quite detached.
Hearing Celia mention a new body, he looked at Kerrigan and gave a wry smile.
She was a queen with a personality completely different from her sister, Elise.
Her aesthetic sense was also entirely different from Elise's, who only appreciated beautiful women.
“I don't even know anymore. Since my destiny has already been twisted, I suppose it will just run its course this time as well.”
Begrun retreated back into his exoskeleton, and his massive body began to move.
Dropping to one knee, he extended his hand to Kerrigan.
Kerrigan donned her helmet once more and very naturally sat upon the shoulder of her cherished toy.
In this manner, Begrun carried Kerrigan out of the nest.
Begrun stood with his back to the refugees he had once wished to protect—who were now evacuating to safety—and gazed at the dense swarms of Great Devourers surrounding them, as well as the sky-blotting flying species whose deafening wingbeats filled the air.
Begrun looked elsewhere.
To the north, where a portion of the Great Mountains was faintly visible in the distance.
Celia and Lisette flew over to them, folding their wings as they landed.
The forces scattered across the Beastkin Kingdom were regrouping to sweep through the entire nation, focusing on a single target.
Elise, who sat quietly in her terrarium watching everything unfold, and Lin Miao, who closely monitored his servants through his screen.
‘Is there only one left now?’
Lin Miao, possessing millions of troops at his beck and call, a vast expanse of land, and perhaps an even larger sphere of influence, confirmed the last remaining hostile deity's faction on this land.
Eliminated through competition, or having surrendered voluntarily.
Through these trials, the moment had finally arrived to decide the true master of this world.
