The Beastkin Kingdom quickly crumbled, unable to hold out any longer.
At that moment, the tightly united Dwarven Alliance, with the dwarves of the Great Mountains at its core, was focused on only one thing.
To this end, almost everyone was mobilized and put to work.
“Confirm the status of the main power engine. Even if all our designs run perfectly, if the engine cannot withstand the load, everything will be over!”
“Check the connection pipes quickly! We are running out of time!”
Those with technical skills were stationed where they were needed most, working without rest.
Those without technical skills pushed through their physical exhaustion, using every ounce of their strength to assist.
“We can do this. We can turn this around.”
Amidst the chaotic and noisy environment, the Dwarven King gazed at the colossal mechanical device being constructed in the ruins they called their sacred ground, deep within the heart of the Great Mountains.
The device hummed, spewing magic power and steam. Its sheer scale was exceptionally massive, even considering that they were dwarves.
For the sake of this single device, they had dismantled and repurposed their proud palace, their historic capital, and their sacred ruins.
The Stargate.
Their deity had cast everything else aside, teaching them only the method required to open the Stargate and urging them to open it as quickly as possible with great urgency.
“Your Majesty... we have confirmed the fall of the Beastkin Kingdom. Refugees who just arrived have confirmed that the Beastkin King is dead.”
“I see. The Earth God has already informed me that the god they served has abandoned them.”
The Dwarven King nodded at the report of his courtier, who had rushed over in a panic.
“To abandon one's own servants at the final moment... how utterly irresponsible.”
“It is simply absurd.”
The dwarves, unaware of the exact details, sighed and assumed that the abandoned beastkin had been brutally devoured by the Great Devourer.
Now that their final barrier had vanished, the dwarves had no choice but to face the Great Devourer directly.
‘As long as we hold out, hold out until the very last moment, and defend this place, we will succeed.’
The Dwarven King stamped his feet anxiously, staring at the Stargate that he hoped would activate as soon as possible.
The columns of fleeing refugees were not limited to the Beastkin Kingdom.
Various factions of the Dwarven Alliance had also begun a mass migration toward the Great Mountains, where sturdy fortifications were already being constructed.
Watching the people from his home duchy, the knight Radion shouted anxiously, “Hurry up! If we are too late, we will be sent to an even harsher base!”
“Do not rush them so much. The remaining bases are all about the same anyway. Wasting our strength for nothing will only cause greater trouble.”
His superior, the dwarven warrior Torban, shook his head.
“My, in all my long years of life, this is the first time I have ever seen humans deep inside the Great Mountains.”
Torban could not help but sigh with emotion as he watched the endless stream of refugees marching under the supervision of the soldiers.
Regardless of status or wealth, everyone living below the mountains was relocating to the bases and fortresses built within the mountain range.
This migration disregarded origin, status, and even race.
Considering that the Great Mountains had been a territory where the dwarves strictly controlled the entry of outsiders for hundreds of years, this was truly a shocking sight.
Of course, this was not entirely the dwarves' own decision.
The Earth God they worshiped had not only accepted the dwarves but also embraced the surrounding human factions, and even the surrendered beastkin had become its servants.
As long as they worshiped the same deity, they were allies. The dwarves no longer had the option to isolate themselves as they had in the past.
“Although the Great Mountains are a natural fortress passed down since ancient times, I really do not know how they will hold up against those demons,” Radion said in a low voice, gazing at the towering peaks around them and the perpetual snow visible in the distance.
“If it were any other enemy, I would think we could handle them easily, but the Great Devourer is indeed different.”
The dwarf Torban did not deny his words.
The Sky Mountain dwarves held immense pride in the Great Mountains, but the Great Devourer was an equally unexpected and terrifying enemy.
Repeated battles had already proven that rugged and steep terrain was no obstacle at all to the Great Devourer.
“But one thing is for sure: it is worth a try.”
Even so, they had never given up hope.
Because to them, this mountain range was the only safe zone left in this world, and in the future, it would become the sacred ground for a great holy war.
“We need a way.”
In reality, this hope was not completely groundless.
According to the scouting results, Elise calculated that if they wanted to break through the Great Mountains, which were strictly controlled and defended by the dwarves, they had to be prepared to make massive sacrifices.
If that were truly the only way, then even if they had to sacrifice millions of Great Devourers, they would have to fight and win.
But as the Queen of the colony, minimizing the colony's sacrifices was also her duty.
To break through the dwarves' defenses on the ground, in the sky, and even through the waterways and underground rock layers flowing through the Great Mountains, Elise felt she needed a new approach.
“What kind of method do you want to use?”
Lin Miao looked back and forth between the terrarium and the screen in front of him in confusion.
No solution came to his mind.
Even though he knew Elise had always been creating new variants and improving their forces by preying on countless genes and absorbing various new technologies, he had also done his part.
Yet, his heart was simultaneously filled with anticipation.
Elise had been a queen since birth. As the First Generation Queen Ant at the core of the colony, her abilities were something even he could not fully comprehend.
He had every reason to believe that with her current abilities, she would definitely be able to achieve something that transcended limits and common sense.
“The sky.”
The method Elise chose was precisely the sky.
Hearing this, Lin Miao's eyes widened.
However, when he spent a few more days learning about the “true monster” Elise had designed that transcended all limits, he was even more shocked.
