In the Underdark, outside the prison facility.
Rosie held the sandworm's tooth high above her head, ensuring the rats hiding in the surrounding shadows could all see it.
Little White stood by her boots, tilting its head back to unleash a rapid succession of squeaks that echoed through the empty ruins.
The giant sandworm's tooth was over a meter long and as thick as an adult's arm. It curved slightly, tapering to an incredibly sharp point.
Upon seeing it, the surrounding rat swarm fell into a frenzy.
To obtain the fruit from the demonic tree, they had to sacrifice dozens of rats each time just to stand a chance of bringing back a single piece.
That giant sandworm had been the ultimate nightmare of the rat swarm.
Yet, under the commands of the Mammothkin, the rats had no choice but to take the risk. Far too many of their kin had been buried beneath those sands.
The squeaking of the rats gradually grew denser, carrying a complex, cathartic emotion.
Little White squeaked back in response, calling out to them.
A series of heavy footsteps echoed from inside the prison facility.
The massive figure of the Mammothkin leader appeared at the entrance. He stared at the tooth in Rosie's hands, his yellow eyes narrowing slightly.
“Outsiders, you have proven your strength. I will now permit you to stay in my territory.”
“Thank you for your generosity. Please, accept my respect!”
Rosie walked toward the Mammothkin leader step by step, holding the tooth aloft.
The surrounding rat swarm fell silent.
Little White crouched in the distance, its front paws trembling slightly.
Rosie stopped in front of the Mammothkin leader and held the tooth high, looking for all the world like she was about to present it to him.
“Very well. I accept your sincerity!”
Thumping his heavy metal rod into the ground, the Mammothkin leaned his towering frame forward and reached out to take the sandworm tooth from Rosie's hands.
The moment his fingers were about to touch the tooth, a sudden change erupted.
Rosie flipped her wrist, shifting her grip from the middle to the root of the tooth. With the sharp tip pointing upward, she lunged forward before the Mammothkin leader could even react, driving her entire weight behind the thrust.
With a soft squelch, the razor-sharp tip of the tooth pierced straight through the Mammothkin leader's throat, stopping only when it wedged deep into the bone.
The leader's eyes bulged as he stared down at the tooth impaling his throat.
Gurgling, muffled sounds escaped his throat as he tried to speak, but a torrent of blood choked off his words.
Clutching the wound with one hand, he reached for his metal rod with the other, desperate to strike back.
Whoosh!
A flash of cold light sliced through the air.
The meteoric iron sword cleaved through the wind, severing the Mammothkin's thick wrist cleanly.
The severed hand, still clutching the metal rod, fell to the ground with a heavy thud, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Blood sprayed from the stump, painting the grayish-white ground crimson.
“Argh!”
The Mammothkin leader let out an agonized shriek.
However, Rosie had absolutely no intention of stopping.
Gripping her sword with both hands, she executed a powerful, sweeping spin.
The sword light drew a massive arc, slicing clean through both of the Mammothkin leader's front legs.
Blood sprayed everywhere!
His massive body could no longer support its own weight and crashed heavily to the ground.
A pool of blood rapidly stained the ground beneath him.
The rat swarm erupted into chaos.
Some rats bolted immediately, while others arched their backs, bared their sharp fangs, and hissed at Rosie, poised to spring at any second.
Panic and hostility spread like wildfire through the swarm.
Little White suddenly stepped forward, opening its mouth to unleash a series of rapid, piercing squeaks.
Hearing the sounds, the rats froze. They looked back at Little White, then at the massive, twitching body on the ground, letting out hesitant, low whimpers.
The Mammothkin leader struggled to open his mouth, preparing to bellow a battle cry...
Splat!
The meteoric iron sword plunged directly into his eye, piercing straight through his skull, and twisted ruthlessly.
The Mammothkin's limbs stiffened, and then his entire body went limp, moving no more.
“Are you satisfied with my tribute?”
Rosie asked calmly as she drew out her meteoric iron sword. She wiped it twice against the massive corpse to clean off the blood and brain matter, then flipped the blade and wiped the other side.
Though the sword's surface was pitted with tiny corroded craters, its edge remained incredibly sharp, slicing through flesh and bone with effortless precision.
The three behind her stared at her back, then at the corpse of the once-domineering Mammothkin, completely dumbfounded.
They had never expected that, just as Rosie had promised, she would so easily assassinate the Mammothkin leader whom Little White had described as incredibly powerful and brutal.
“Little White, lead the way,” Rosie said calmly.
Little White squeaked at the rat swarm a few more times.
Looking at their leader's corpse, the rats that had been on the verge of attacking began to retreat, none of them daring to draw near.
Little White turned and scampered over to Rosie. “New Master, follow me. Little White will guide you.”
Rosie nodded and followed.
“From now on, if anyone tries to present me with a gift, I'm definitely going to make them leave it far, far away,” the dwarf muttered before catching up.
Anna and Knight John followed close behind.
As he passed the Mammothkin leader's corpse, the dwarf spat on the massive body. “Bah! You thought being tall made you special?”
Led by Little White, the four of them entered the building and headed straight for the deeper areas.
Standing guard at the entrance to the inner depths was a row of Soldier Rats. They were a full size larger than the common rats, with protruding teeth and razor-sharp claws.
Little White ran over and unleashed a flurry of squeaks at the Soldier Rats.
The Soldier Rats listened quietly before stepping aside to clear a path.
“What did you tell them?” Rosie asked.
Little White turned back, its tone carrying a hint of obsequiousness. “Master, I told them the leader ordered me to bring you inside.”
The corner of Rosie's mouth twitched slightly. “You're quite clever, aren't you?”
“Thank you for the praise, Master! This way, please follow me.”
Little White turned and continued to lead the way.
The four of them followed behind.
After walking a bit further, Little White stopped at the entrance of a massive hall and glanced back at Rosie.
Rosie gave a nod, and Little White scurried inside.
The hall was spacious, paved with neat stone slabs, with several thick pillars standing in the central area.
Eight Mammothkin were gathered together, some sitting and some standing, conversing in low voices.
Anna raised her wand, her lips moving as she chanted a spell.
Hearing the commotion, the Mammothkin turned their heads in unison.
One of them opened his mouth, seemingly about to ask a question.
A burst of fiery light shot from the tip of Anna's wand, drawing a brilliant arc through the air before landing right in the center of the gathered Mammothkin.
Boom!
An explosion ripped through the hall as flames surged upward.
The four Mammothkin at the very center were instantly engulfed, turning into four blazing fireballs. They let out bloodcurdling shrieks, thrashing and rolling on the ground in a desperate attempt to extinguish the flames.
However, the fire only burned hotter. Their struggles gradually ceased, and their curled-up bodies soon lay motionless amidst the inferno.
Although the four on the outer ring weren't directly swallowed by the explosion, they were showered with sparks. Their thick fur caught fire, releasing a pungent, acrid stench of burning hair.
They wailed, slapping at the burning parts of their bodies to put out the fire.
Just then, a figure appeared right in front of them.
Ignoring the thrashing figures, Rosie charged straight toward the outermost Mammothkin who was still frantically beating at the flames.
With a sweep of her sword, she sliced into the back of its knee.
The massive body lost its support and crashed to the ground, only to be swallowed by the spreading flames amidst its agonized screams.
Without pausing for even a fraction of a second, she spun toward the next one.
A second strike, then a third.
She went to work like a master pedicurist of death, her every strike targeting their knees or the back of their legs. She didn't aim for instant kills, only to completely cripple these massive creatures.
Once their colossal bodies collapsed, they could never stand back up. They could only roll and wail on the ground, helplessly watching the fire consume their entire bodies.
By the time the dwarf charged in with his axe raised, all the remaining Mammothkin in the hall had already collapsed, engulfed in roaring flames and shrieking in agony.
The dwarf swung his axe once, only to realize there was no longer any need for a finishing blow.
Watching the giant torches twitching in the fire, he winced and took a step back. The heat was too intense, roasting him even from a distance.
There were also Servant Rats in the hall responsible for chores. Originally huddled in the corners awaiting orders, they fled in terror at the horrific sight, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
The commotion quickly alerted even more Mammothkin.
A barrage of heavy, hurried footsteps echoed from the corridor deep within the hall.
At the same time, footsteps resounded from the entrance as the guarding Soldier Rats rushed in, arching their backs and baring their fangs with threatening growls.
Little White immediately stood forward, squeaking frantically at them in an attempt to make them back down.
But this time, the Soldier Rats were completely unmoved. One of them even lashed out with its claws and lunged straight at Little White.
“Kill them,” Rosie said coldly.
Slash!
The dwarf swung his axe down, cleaving the lunging Soldier Rat in two from shoulder to waist. Blood sprayed everywhere, and its innards spilled onto the stone slabs.
“Leave these pests to me! Go take out those big bastards!”
The dwarf roared, delivering a backhand swing that sent another Soldier Rat leaping from the side flying.
Gripping his axe with both hands, he chopped down the rushing Soldier Rats one after another like splitting firewood.
The heavy, rhythmic thuds of the axe blade cleaving through bone and flesh were punctuated by the dying squeals of the rats.
“Move!”
Rosie charged toward the inner corridor.
Knight John followed closely behind, using his shield to deflect a Soldier Rat leaping from the side. With a reverse thrust, his sword pierced its throat, before he moved to cover the female mage as they pushed forward.
Little White also gave chase, scurrying right behind Rosie and looking around nervously as it ran.
A Mammothkin was the first to charge out of the inner corridor.
“Who goes there—!”
Before his roar could finish, an ice spike pierced through the air and drove violently into his throat, cutting him off instantly.
Bloody froth spewed from his mouth as his massive body stumbled forward two steps before crashing heavily to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Rosie stepped onto his body, using it as a springboard to leap high into the air.
Raising her meteoric iron sword high above her head, she brought it crashing down upon the head of the second Mammothkin that had just rushed out.
Crack!
The blade sank directly into the center of the Mammothkin's forehead, splitting the massive skull cleanly in half.
Red and white brain matter spilled from the split skull, splashing onto the floor.
Carried by its own momentum, the massive body stumbled forward two steps before collapsing with a resounding thud.
Another fireball streaked past Rosie, exploding in the corridor ahead.
The blast engulfed several Mammothkin who had just rushed out. Agonized screams echoed from within the flames as several towering figures of fire stumbled forward a few paces before collapsing one by one, burning fiercely.
Rosie flicked her sword to clear the blade and continued forward.
The firelight illuminated her back, casting a long shadow behind her.
“Kill them! Leave none alive!”
Her cold voice echoed through the corridor.
