Ning Busan was absorbing the memories of the Undead King.
Gradually, he noticed something wasn't quite right.
Though the memories spanned a long time, they were incredibly dry and dull.
The Undead Realm was a unique place. Only the dead could enter; anyone else would be cursed.
The residual spirits of all intelligent beings on the Landia Continent would come to the Undead Realm after death. As a result, there was a vast variety of undead, including not only humans and sea monsters, but even dragons.
As long as their soul cores remained intact, the undead could live forever.
So as long as one laid low and survived, their day would eventually come.
The suppression of ranks among the undead was terrifying, but the First Undead King hadn't advanced his rank through cultivation.
He had been the Undead King from the moment of his birth, the sole ruler of the Blood Red Wasteland.
It was just that he was incredibly laid-back!
Throughout the process of receiving these memories, Ning Busan didn't feel a single ripple of emotion.
Because the Undead King's life had been far too monotonous!
Just how monotonous was it?
Every day, he repeated the same two things: crawling into his tombstone to sleep, and then getting up to bask in the sun.
Living this endless, repetitive cycle day after day made Ning Busan's scalp tingle just looking at it.
Outrageously enough, Ning Busan discovered that Satan and the Undead King not only knew each other, but also regarded each other as close friends.
But depending on the perspective, it was two completely different stories.
Back when Satan led the demons to ravage the mortal realm and usher in the Dark Era, he had needed allies to oppose the God of Light, which was why he came to the Undead Realm.
Upon their first meeting, the Undead King had left him with the impression of a mysterious, unfathomable existence—one who could even rival the God of Light.
Through Satan's shameless, persistent pestering, the Undead King eventually became his ally.
But from the Undead King's perspective, it was just some lunatic dropping by uninvited from time to time, talking a lot of nonsense. However, since the guy brought gifts every time, the Undead King felt too embarrassed to throw hands.
Over time, they actually became friends.
Later, when Satan was practically begging for death by trying to wage war against Heaven, the Undead King had even generously dispatched his undead army to help him.
It was hard to find words for this...
Ning Busan touched his own skull, falling into a faint state of melancholy.
Most of the undead lacked intelligence, and even the Undead King gave him the vibe of a... single-celled organism.
Did people really become stupid after losing their brains?
“What are you thinking about?” Lucifer had just returned when he saw Ning Busan wearing a deep frown, looking as if he were contemplating some grand existential crisis.
“Nothing.” Ning Busan suddenly remembered something. He grabbed Lucifer's arm and pulled back his sleeve, only to find that his flesh had indeed begun to slowly rot.
“The Undead Realm is a gathering place for the dead. Any living being who enters will be afflicted by the curse. Lucifer, it seems even your power of chaos can't do anything against the curse here.”
Lucifer said, “It doesn't matter.”
“Still acting tough?” Ning Busan drawled. Suddenly, he clamped down on Lucifer's wrist, and a faint green light flared in his palm.
The curse receded like an ebbing tide.
Lucifer was stunned for a moment. He looked down at his restored hand. “How did you do that?”
Ning Busan said, “I am the Undead King now. Reversing the curse is one of my authorities.”
Lucifer wasn't particularly surprised.
The God of Light might not have a mouth to speak, but Ning Busan certainly did!
Ning Busan had told Lucifer everything he needed to know, nipping any potential misunderstandings in the bud.
However, he noticed that aside from the curse, Lucifer also had new injuries on him.
Ning Busan asked, “What were you just doing?”
Lucifer shook his head. “Nothing...”
He had merely smashed a few high-ranking undead to pieces when they tried to get too close.
Lucifer suddenly asked, “Don't you find the Undead Realm strange?”
“In what way?”
“This is a place that can be illuminated by both Heaven and Hell at the same time.”
Ning Busan fell into thought.
The human world also had a sun and a moon, but the light and dark elements were filtered out, leaving only ordinary sunlight and moonlight to shine down.
The Undead Realm was the most unique place on the Landia Continent.
The blazing sun of Heaven and the blood moon of Hell shone directly onto the Undead Realm, alternating between light and dark in a strange yet perfect harmony.
Ning Busan asked, “So, what are you trying to say?”
Lucifer said, “The undead are born with the perfect constitution for cultivating the power of chaos!”
Ning Busan hadn't expected him to reach such a conclusion. He felt the need to explain, “Undead either cultivate by absorbing the essence of the sun and moon, or they strengthen themselves by devouring the soulfire of their own kind.”
Lucifer said, “The power of chaos blends both light and dark attributes, filled with destructive and violent energy.”
“I can use the power of chaos because I was once an angel and later became a demon. Both light and dark attributes have existed within my body, allowing me to control them and keep them in a state of balance.”
“On the Landia Continent, light and dark are incompatible, so the power of chaos shouldn't exist at all. However, the undead can absorb both the power of the blood moon and the power of the holy light.”
Ning Busan said thoughtfully, “If that's the case, can all undead cultivate the power of chaos?”
Lucifer said, “It's not that they can cultivate the power of chaos, but rather that they already are.”
Ning Busan gasped, “Huh?”
Lucifer said, “I just fought with some of the undead, and the power they used was also the power of chaos.”
Ning Busan thought about it and understood in an instant.
If Leo could teach Lucifer how to cultivate the power of chaos, he could naturally teach the Undead Clan as well.
Just what was he trying to do?
Lucifer said, “You should declare your return to the Undead Realm.”
Ning Busan channeled the power of his soul core.
Even if Lucifer hadn't brought it up, he still wanted to find out exactly what had happened.
The return of the King caused the entire Blood Red Wasteland to tremble.
Ghosts drifted down from the branches of withered trees, headless zombie soldiers marched slowly while clutching their stiff heads, the mounts of death knights galloped with hooves ablaze with green phosphorus fire, bone dragons shattered cliffs as they soared into the sky, and the skeletal remains of sea monsters leaped out from the River of the Dead...
Tens of millions of faint green soulfires flickered as they moved in the same direction, the clattering of bones sounding like a hymn.
With Ning Busan at the center, all the undead gathered in a massive circle, with the higher-ranked ones in front and the lower-ranked ones in the back.
They knelt in unison. “Greetings, our King! The God-Defying Remains, the Void Eye, the End of Calamity, the Underworld's Eulogizer—Noctis!”
Ning Busan froze.
Oh, no!
He had actually forgotten about this!
“Your name is Noctis now? That's a good name!” Lucifer wasn't just blindly praising him; he genuinely thought it was a great name.
However, Ning Busan massaged his forehead and let out a sigh.
“The God-Defying Remains, the Void Eye, the End of Calamity, the Underworld's Eulogizer—Noctis,” Ning Busan rattled off rapidly, then took a deep breath. “The above is my full name.”
That's right!
That long string of titles before the dash wasn't a prefix at all; it was literally part of his name.
After all, who hadn't gone through a chuunibyou phase?
